The Persistence of Hardware Bans in Apex Legends

In EA fast-paced battle royale Apex Legends, cheaters frequently assume that creating a fresh Steam or EA App account after a ban allows them to jump right back into the arena. However, players quickly discover that their new accounts are terminated within 15 minutes of landing in Kings Canyon.

This persistent lockout is executed by Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) through a multi-layered Hardware Identification (HWID) Blacklist.

What Hardware Components Does EAC Query?

Easy Anti-Cheat kernel driver (EasyAntiCheat.sys) executes low-level SMBIOS and driver IOCTL queries to construct a composite machine fingerprint:

  • Storage Drive Serial Numbers: Unique hardware serials burned into NVMe SSD and SATA controller firmware (SMART queries).
  • Motherboard UUID & BIOS Serial: Immutable board identifiers provisioned by ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, or ASRock.
  • Network Interface Card (NIC) MAC Address: Physical MAC addresses of onboard Ethernet and Wi-Fi chipsets.
  • CPU Processor ID & RAM Configuration: Memory serial numbers and register architectures.

Why Reformatting Windows Fails Against EAC Bans

Reinstalling Windows only regenerates the Windows Product ID and OS Volume Serial Number. It has zero impact on the physical firmware serials hardcoded into your SSDs and motherboard chipset. Read our investigation on EAC hardware ban architecture and detection mechanisms.
