
The Role of Easy Anti-Cheat in Modern Gaming
Developed by Kamu and acquired by Epic Games, Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) protects some of the most popular competitive titles in the gaming industry, including Apex Legends, Rust, Fortnite, and Dead by Daylight.
When a machine is flagged for malicious activity in an EAC-protected game, the penalty is rarely limited to a single user account. EAC issues a composite Hardware ID (HWID) Ban that prevents any new accounts from playing on the same physical computer.
Composite Hardware Hashing Explained
EAC does not rely on a single serial number to identify a computer. Instead, it generates a cryptographic composite hash derived from an array of system attributes:
- SMBIOS System Information: Board manufacturer, chassis serial, and BIOS release date.
- Storage Serial Numbers (S.M.A.R.T. Queries): Low-level disk drive serials retrieved directly from physical drive controllers.
- CPU Processor Identifiers: Processor ID and microcode revision stamps.
- GPU Physical Device IDs: Graphics card hardware descriptor and sub-vendor IDs.
Why Changing Your IP or Reinstalling Windows Does Not Work
Reinstalling Windows formats the operating system files on your disk, but it does not alter the physical hardware serial numbers embedded in your computer silicon. As soon as you reinstall the game and launch the EAC service, the anti-cheat recalculates the hardware hash and immediately terminates the session (often producing error codes such as Error Code 10011 or Account Banned).
The Extreme Danger of Third-Party HWID Spoofers
Desperate players often turn to third-party "HWID Spoofer" software found online. Cybersecurity analyses consistently reveal that over 80% of downloaded spoofers contain:
