The Persistent Myth of Discord Voice IP Sniffing
On gaming forums and YouTube comment sections, scam services frequently claim to sell "Discord IP Resolvers" that can extract a target IP address simply by joining a voice call. To demonstrate why this is technically impossible in modern networking, the DCIPCHECK security team conducted empirical Wireshark packet captures on live Discord voice streams.
The Empirical Wireshark Audit: What the Logs Show
During live 1-on-1 direct calls and group server voice channels, packet captures revealed:
- Destination IP Analysis: 100% of outbound UDP RTP/RTCP voice packets are addressed directly to Discord cloud server clusters (e.g.,
66.22.x.xor162.158.x.xbelonging to Discord / Cloudflare ASNs). - Zero Peer IP Sockets: Not a single network packet is exchanged directly between the caller and receiver machines.
- DTLS-SRTP Payload Encryption: Audio payload bytes are fully encrypted using modern Datagram Transport Layer Security, preventing intermediate network nodes from decoding speech.
Where Do "Discord Resolvers" Actually Get Data?
Fake resolver websites do not sniff voice packets. They rely on Deceptive Link Grabbers (tricking victims into clicking disguised URLs that log the IP) or historical database lookups from old third-party forum breaches. Read our investigation on the truth behind Discord IP resolvers.
